Regard one another as more important than yourself (Part 3)
With our study of the book of Philippians our focus is:
"Regard one another as more important than yourself."
We are able to do this as we:
- Connect Together: building relationships with and investing in one another
- Grow Together: we help one another to depend on the Lord and to become more like Christ.
- Display Together
When we "display together," we are seeking to "become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe" (Phil. 2:15). This is not perfection, but rather a strong desire to doing God's will. As we live together before God, we will shine before the unbelieving world. See Matt. 5:15-16.
We"display together," when we let our gentleness be evident to all people. (Phil. 4:5). This is a consideration of others, being compassionate and kind, even when the normal or expected response would be retaliation. All people will see this.
We"display together" as we intentionally and actively build relationships with people who are not yet followers of Christ. I believe this is best done as a church as we get to know the community around our church and where we live. Through relationships the Lord opens doors to love people through serving them, to share with them what God is doing in our church, and to share our testimony and the Good News in a loving manner. Paul talks about this as the"advance of the gospel." (Phil. 1:12)
Let's look for ways to draw together and display through our character, our actions, and our words the love of Jesus Christ.
